Harrowing
Harrowing is one of the most traditional and effective ways to maintain a healthy paddock. Over time, a layer of "thatch", dead grass, old roots, and moss, builds up at the base of your pasture, effectively suffocating the living grass and preventing water and nutrients from reaching the soil.
Using our chain harrows, we vigorously "comb" the surface of your paddock. This process pulls out the dead material and aerates the top layer of soil, which stimulates "tillering" (the growth of new shoots from the base of the grass plant). It is also the most natural way to manage paddock hygiene; harrowing breaks up and spreads organic matter and droppings, returning them to the soil as a natural fertiliser. For owners in the York and Easingwold areas, a spring harrow is the perfect way to "wake up" the land and kickstart the growing season.
